Ember is still reeling from her encounter with the fiends, but Kaylia and Ember’s perceptions of it turn out to be quite different.
Guest art!:

Now I’m just as confused as Ember, what the hecky was that!?
It had also came from her, not just the demon, maybe the combination did something to change it??? Like how you get edible salt from dangerous elements chlorine and sodium…
Besides her books and shirt shreds, did Ember leave behind fiend carcasses to be found or did they quickly dissolve after being dispelled?
Pretty sure that is real physical meat and bone! The fiends are a type of flesh golem not a summon.
Maybe the reason she has trouble using magic isn’t because her body eats it, but rather that it’s going to the demon, so when she was cooperating with her demon half, she had full access to her magic?
Considering all we’ve learned about the Voice that Ember has, it seems to be something crafted from the deepest part of her mind if not her very soul. So it makes sense she dain greater power from her magic if she uncaged her Voice, they both seem to come from the same source.
The voice at times even seems influenced by both positive and negative emotions. The Voice though critical of how Ember went about protecting Kaylia at first seemingly went along with it. Perhaps the inner Voice isn’t evil but heavily influenced by what the person thinks and feels. And what good or bad you put into it is what you get back.
Ember : I used dark magic
Kaylia : you used sparkly magic
Ember : its still evil
Kaylia : it saved me.
Ember : your making it hard to feel terror over my use of demonic magic
Kaylia : your thinking too hard on a sparkly good thing.
Poor Ember dealing with an existential crisis while protecting Kaylia. With how determined Risaac is to pursue Ember, despite her very limited display of power until this point, I have to wonder what else the demons know about her particular bloodline.
