Ember could certainly use a break from all that self loathing.

Ember could certainly use a break from all that self loathing.
She looks really good in the third panel. :3
That last panel is telling me two different things, and I can tell which is true:
① She’s thinking about Bernin and Cole.
② Ember wasn’t originally Blue in color!
…Isn’t Echo _also_ a demon, or am I misunderstanding?
Nope! Echo is a Quelladar, which is a Tennin race. The race has a history with demonhood, and therefore a proficiency with black magic, that’s what Ember has voiced worry about in the past (they also extra resistance to black magic).
(Though to be clear, any race can be demon or not. “Demon race” and “Tennin race” are just the cultures and reputations).
Hopefully Echo is going back to call off the raid so he can accompany Ember on her travels. Well at least this will keep him out of trouble. Echo better start getting travelling supplies, I assume as he was here to raid the town he probably wasn’t packing much. Maybe Echo knows a couple of the voice followers living in Tennin lands he and Ember can stay with, as I assume they won’t have much in coin. How has Ember been making coin in Tennin lands anyways for the past three years? She left Brairwood with almost nothing and alone I guess being book smart paid off?
Though it may be nice to return to simpler times, Ember best not dwell in them too long. After everything she’s gone through temporarily going back to the simpler times may not be bad. However that would give Echo a chance or multiple chances to try and charm Ember to come and with him to Brairwood. Promising everything will feel just about the same as they were back then, but of course Echo might just leave out some details to make it seem more appealing. Like sacrifices they have to perform to maintain their power and standing, and raids Echo tends to go on.
Most readers go to the capital, so it’s not hard for her to find work as a reader. She mentioned earlier how collecting magical herbs at the border is decent money, hence why she’s setup here.
Why would Ember want to stay with a Voice follower? She wants to rid herself of anything relating to black magic so she can do (non-black) magic that doesn’t fizzle out.
Does Echo have a romantic or just friend interest in her? I’m not sure which way the last few pages have been leaning. Sure, he noticed her “assets” (hey, eyes up here!), but any guy would notice that change since the last time they met.
