An awesome climax for Ember’s battle at Nin! This could end really well or really badly. With one of the fiends gone, Ember has given Kaylia another chance at least.
(Obviously I don’t think that. My theory is that this is going to prove to be a pivotal moment for her in understanding her relationship with magic. ð)
This is a bit different then her soul eating her own magic. I assume just animating something like this takes a whole lot of magic. But it has also been gorging itself on the magic it stole from each person they ate. And while Elane’s runes are meant to unravel and purify the magic, Ember’s doesn’t look as nearly as complex as the ones sewn into Elane’s robes.
Ember isn’t just eating a single magical beast; she’s eating potentially all the magic from their victims as well.
I really like how panel 4 kind of abandons all sense of “logical camera angles” for the sake of instead showing what’s going through Ember’s head in that moment all at once: The monster on one side, kid screaming on the other.

Don’t mess with Ember. She’ll f*ck you up.
Now to see what this does to Ember.

She’s leveled up.
Well, she did warn them.
