Hyenas aren’t a Tennin race, and by extension, are considered to be demons on technicality (Same with felines). Jackals are the only western race to earn Tennin status.
Some of you might recognize this girl from a teaser way back for chapter 2! Her introduction ended up getting pushed way back, and Veera’s debut was pushed forward for the sake of Bernin’s character development. It’s nice to finally have her out in the open, so I’m free to draw her without spoiling anything ^^
Okay, ngl, I already like this girl.
Wait… Tennin is a list and everything else is demon by default… I knew I was a bit dubious about Tennin society, but that is a bit… . Wait… page 78 tells us that rabbits, birds, and deer are not Tennin. … How many demons are on page 11? Did Jackals suddenly become good for blood sacrifice rituals when they were legally recognised?
Anything with a heart that beats, a demon will want to sacrifice it to their god. Even another demon if they have to. I suspect that as there are at least 3 “Dark Gods” in Sai-Vay, a race, previously created by one of these gods, is considered a ‘Demon’ race. But, as w0lfmare has stated in the past, ANY races members can become a demon, so, clearly, there is a bit of a disconnect between fact and belief in Sai-Vay.
Oh no, could it be even worse than I feared!? The Dark Voice is the god if Darkness. Darkness, shadows, where is it darkest? The deep woods! What casts those shadows? THE TREES ARE EVIL!!! Was the god of nature always Evil? Are they mind-controlled? Replaced with an imposter? Does anyone know? All I truly know is… if the sign says to stay off the grass, STAY OFF THE GRASS!
Oh, and page 78 mentions that Tennin blood is special for blood rituals. Smol Bunnikins the Last apparently wasn’t good eatin’. Still ‘et it, so worth summit, but lacked that sweet Tennin spicy sauce.
I’m surprised the hyenas and jackal don’t have a proper name for their kind, like the wolves, foxes, and doggos do.
They probably do, but Tennin just don’t bother learning them. There aren’t enough of them about for Tennin to hear about them before they see them, and when they see them it is all “Oh look, a feline person!” and they might not eve even talk to them. Then everyone is doing it and it is too much effort to correct them, especially when half of them are all like “but you are a jackal, and that is some foreign word you want me to use. I am a good tennin who uses good tennin language!” and it is simply easier to pretend that that whole thing just doesn’t exist…
But I am guessing that the Jackals and Felines and Trees and Hyenas all have their own words for themselves in their own languages that would be phonetically translated into tennin if anyone was willing to do so.
What would be very awkward is if Vivian is Gale’s replacement. Though highly unlikely, but would be one heck of an introduction. Maybe we can get an answer to what’s up with all the bandages, is it a cultural thing or just a disguise to pass through Tennin cities drawing as little attention then normal. Though such a disguise kind of sticks out anyways.
Vivian definitely has a sinister expression, she does seem to be up to something. whether or not it is malicious it’s too early to say. She does currently gives off a malicious vibe, but why are Tennin look down on others? Perhaps Denrim’s general attitude to “outsiders” is more common then it seems.
So serious racism exists, …
I’m guessing that only canids can be Tennin? That almost sounds speciesist.
Don’t get technical with me.
